Individual Therapy
An individual may seek therapy for many reasons, frequently this time can be challenging or troubling. At Balham Community Counselling Service we provide a calm, safe and empathic environment, making that step into therapy a little easier.
Our therapists build a collaborative relationship to help facilitate change. Utilising Integrative therapeutic skills the therapist is able to adapt to a client’s particular needs, helping them explore and process their experience.
Therapy takes place weekly with the same therapist at the same time. At BCCS we offer a long-term (a full year) service to allow the development of a therapeutic relationship and the time to work together.
At BCCS our aim is to facilitate long-term positive outcomes in our clients’ psychological health and well-being.
Couples Therapy
In todays’ society many pressures affect our relationships, instant gratification, financial difficulties, infidelity, conflict in raising a family, work pressures, sexual dysfunction, just a few but significant factors that can lead to disharmony, fractures and challenges to a relationship.
Working in a triad requires an experienced therapist to navigate the challenges faced by the couple. Both parties need to feel safe, heard and supported. Our therapists work collaboratively with both parties to provide this environment so they can explore the way forward.
Our History
Balham’s foundations are deeply rooted in passion and determination to help those in need. Actress Sonia Markham, a peace, community and women’s rights activist jointly founded Balham Family Centre in addition to developing the first counselling course at Goldsmiths College. The aim of BCCS then as is today - to provide access to essential support individuals and families need, be it practical, emotional or psychological. To improve an individual’s wellbeing
Today at BCCS
Balham Community Centre continues to meet the needs of local families through children's clubs, holiday care, English courses, support groups and the Counselling Service.
Our therapists recruited from established training courses across London and the South East are either in their final stages of training or are working towards accreditations. Additionally, all therapists are supported by in-house supervision to provide evidence-based psychotherapeutic counselling. Today clients extend further than the local community, at Balham clients requiring low-cost professional counselling are accepted from across London and the South East.
Our Facilities
The counselling rooms are set up to provide a comfortable, calm and safe environment.
Disabled access is limited, ground floor rooms are available.
